OPCC Sojourn Services for Battered Women and Their Children
Established in 1977, Sojourn provides battered women and their children a safe space to regroup, rebuild, and reestablish their self-esteem and lives. Our diverse programs serve women and children of all classes, cultures and religions, regardless of economic circumstances, physical and mental disabilities or immigration status, including those who are traditionally underserved, such as lesbians, elderly women, prostitutes, women with HIV, and the substance-dependant. Sojourn fosters solidarity among women and children, educates the community and society, and is committed to effecting political and social change through grassroots activism and a philosophy of individual empowerment. The Silverlake Conservatory of Music The mission of the Silverlake Conservatory of Music, a non-profit organization, is to facilitate basic music education. Our primary focus is on the youth of the community but all are welcome and encouraged to participate. The Conservatory offers private music lessons at a reasonable cost and grants scholarships to children in need, providing free lessons and instruments. The study of music enriches the life of the student as well as the community and society. Los Angeles Union Rescue Mission Union Rescue Mission (URM) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the poor and homeless. Established in 1891, URM is one of the largest rescue missions of its kind in the United States and the oldest in Los Angeles. We provide a comprehensive array of emergency and long-term services to our guests, including: food, shelter, clothing, medical and dental care, recovery programs, transitional housing, legal assistance, education, counseling, and job training to needy men, women, children, and families. NYC Coalition to End Hunger The New York City Coalition Against Hunger (NYCCAH) represents the more than 1,200 nonprofit soup kitchens and food pantries in New York City and the more than one million low-income New Yorkers who are forced to use them. The Coalition works to meet the immediate food needs of low-income New Yorkers and enact innovative solutions to help them move "beyond the soup kitchen" to self-sufficiency. |
